Tauro-ω-muricholic acid sodium (TωMCA sodium) is a bile acid released by the liver and an analog of tauro-α-muricholic acid. Tauro-ω-muricholic acid sodium is investigated as a potential marker in plasma for early-onset neonatal sepsis (EOS) and cholestasis studies

Sprague–Dawley rats are fed a standard diet with 1 week, and then randomly assigned to the two groups. The control group received a normal diet (10 kcal%), while the NAFLD group is fed a high-fat diet (60 kcal%; 18 weeks).
10 BAs from the NAFLD group are significantly decreased in the liver, including 4 tauro-conjugated BA species including taurolithocholic acid (TLCA), THDCA, taurodeoxycholic acid (TDCA) and tauro ω-muricholic acid (TωMCA). Furthermore, βDCA, HDCA, 6-ketoLCA, 23-nordeoxycholic acid (NorDCA), LCA and 3β-chenodeoxycholic acid (βCDCA) shows lower levels in the NAFLD group.
